The Steps of a Dental Cleaning

Posted .

Do you have a dental cleaning coming up? If so, our dentists, Dr. Trey Morrow, would like to help you prepare for your appointment by telling you all about the treatment steps involved. The more you know, the more comfortable you might feel in the dental chair. So, when you come to our office, you can expect the following steps:

Step No. 1: Your hygienist will get you ready to take some X-rays. They might do this by giving you a chest shield and bitewings. They will also give you the play-by-play on how the X-rays are going to work.

Step No. 2: Your hygienist will examine your teeth with a little dental mirror and small dental tool to make sure your teeth and gums are in tip-top shape.

Step No. 3: Your hygienist will deeply clean your teeth by removing the plaque and tartar from your smile and by flossing the cracks between your teeth. To deeply clean the surfaces of your teeth, they will use a high-powered toothbrush and your choice of flavored toothpaste. They will run the brush over your teeth and deeply clean every surface.

Step No. 4: Your hygienist will rinse your mouth with water to wash away any debris in your mouth. In fact, they will do this throughout the treatment to keep your mouth clean.

Step No. 5: Your hygienist will provide a fluoride treatment that comes in the form of a gel, foam, or varnish. The treatment will strengthen your tooth enamel and help you have a healthier smile.
